The island is less than 25 kilometres far from Bali. It is still a place without any purely commercial tourism. It measures about 70 kilometres along the coast. The highest peak of the island is Mundi, rising to 503 metres above sea level. The southern coast is formed by amazing rocks and dramatic sceneries. The cliffs here are as high as 300 m. In the bays, you can observe mantas or dolphins. You will find here even several amazing forested valleys with magical canyons and ponds. These are prevailingly sacred places. The western shore of the island is framed by reefs falling to a more than 200 metres deep canyon that separates Nusa Penida from Ceningan Island. In this part of the island, there is the Toyapakeh Bay where Penida Dive Resort is settled. The northern coast is densely populated. The capital, Sampalan, is located in this part of the island, and it is also the destination of ferries coming from Bali, which arrive daily. The eastern coast is wild and hardly accessible. There are numerous Hindu villages in the interior of the island. Nusa Penida is still like a virgin pearl right in the vicinity of the commercial Bali.

Penida Dive Resort and its experienced guides are ready to present you 20 sites out of which some are ranked among pearls of world's diving terrains. Three years of diving in the waters of Nusa Penida and over 2.000 dives in these terrains serves as insurance for remarkable diving adventures. Generally speaking, the diving conditions at Nusa Penida are convenient for advanced divers AOWD. For less experienced OWD divers, we will prepare a less demanding programme. The guides are authorized to evaluate divers' state and experience, and decide about their not diving in case there were any reasons for that. Each diver has to pass training on sites and on rules before diving, has to have a special insurance for diving, and signs a form about understanding the instructions for diving with Penida Dive Resort. Follow our instructions and, in return, we are ready to organize amazing and remarkable dives in beautiful sites at the best moments. To dive among a shoal of mantas or to dive among ocean sunfish are real adventures for which divers have been coming already for several years. We do diving courses OWD SSI during 4 days (7 dives, 6 hours theory).

A huge deep-water monster which grows up to 3 metres of height and can weigh up to 1500 kg. This heaviest bony fish comes to the waters of Nusa Penida from June to October to clean itself. Ocean sunfish eat mainly jellyfish. Mola mola ascend to surface waters with upgoing cold currents and go up with thermocline. In extreme cases, the water temperature can decrease to 15 degrees centigrade. A normal temperature at this period is about 20-24 degrees. Nusa Penida ranks among the best locations in the world for scuba diving where you can meet these animals. Penida Dive Resort guides will take you to the best sites they have known for several years of experience. Thanks to that, you have a really big chance to encounter these fish. In 2006, we realized more than 60 encounters with ocean sunfish; in 2007 more than 70 and in 2008 about 50 encounters, 2009 about 75 encounters and 2010 more than 40 encounters. These ocean queens of elegance gather at the southern coast of Nusa Penida year round, and the best time to observe them is from March to November. Atlantic manta is the biggest ray of world oceans and grows up to 7 metres of width. The largest mantas at Nusa Penida are about 5 metres wide. Mantas have a dark brown to black backbone and a white belly with numerous dark spots. An all black manta is rather a rarity but there are two of them in our locality. Mantas eat plankton which they filter out through their wide mouth with long skinny collar that serves as a funnel. These cartilaginous fish often gather near to the surface. Mantas are oviviparous and it is only very little known of their reproduction. Penida Dive Resort has prepared for you 5 interesting sites at Nusa Penida where mantas occur, out of which one is a real gem. If you want to dive with mantas, the best solution is to go to Nusa Penida. We have chosen for you the best times when you can dive with mantas alone, without any other dive centres, and for the lowest prices. We care for a maximal considerateness towards these wonderful animals, and we are looking forward to our encounters with these oceanic flyers.

You will be accommodated in clean double-bed bungalows, equipped either with marriage beds or with separate beds. Each bungalow has a sanitary facility of its own and a small terrace. There are 220V electrical outlets in the rooms. We offer bed and breakfast service. Some rooms are equipped with air-conditioning (for a fee), but all rooms have a fan. The capacity of Penida Dive Resort is 22 beds. There are insect repellents in the rooms as well as a sufficient number of electric outlets for charging cameras and recorders. The tap water is fresh water but not drinking water!

TRANSPORT TO NUSA PENIDA

Not as comfortable but the way most islanders make the commute! (as well as the goats and the chickens!) If you want a real taste of island life then this is the way to travel.

TRANSPORT BALI (SANUR) - LEMBONGAN

PERAMA BOAT - A traditional large Jukung with comfortable seats, life jackets and weather proofing.

Leaves Sanur Beach at 10:30 am and costs Rp. 100,000 one way and Rp.180,000 return. This is the way that most travellers get to Nusa Lembongan. It is safe and comfortable and the crew are attentive and helpful. They are now also offering a speed boat service.

PUBLIC-BOAT - Not as comfortable as the Perama but the way most islanders make the commute! (as well as the goats and the chickens!) If you want a real taste of island life then this is the way to travel.

This boat leaves Sanur Beach at 8:00 am and costs Rp. 50,000.

Scoot - A fast, comfortable speed boat that holds up to 20 passengers. It gets across to the island in about 40 minutes. Tickets for Scoot can be booked through World Diving or from their office in Jl. Hang Tuah.
Scoot leaves Sanur Beach at 9:30 am and 4:00 pm. Scoot costs US$ 27 one way or US$ 45 return.

Rocky Fast Boat - This is a new service which offers three return trips a day departing from Jungutbatu at 9.00 am, 1.00 pm and 3.30 pm, and from Sanur at 10.00 am, 2.00 pm and 4.30. They charge Rp 450,000 return with a reduced price for children under 11.

Public-speed-boat - A fast speed boat that holds up to 10 passengers. It also gets across to the island in about 40minutes. Tickets for the public speed boat are bought from vendors on Sanur beach near Jl. Hang Tuah. This boat leaves Sanur Beach at 4:00 pm. and costs Rp. 175,000 one way or Rp 350,000 return.

SURFING SAFARI 2011

From April 2011 you can rent Safari Jukung Manta´P for surfing groups for SURFING SAFARI on Lembongan and West Lombok. Only for groups of surfers! You have to do reservation 2 months before!!! Maximum for 15 surfers (beds for 10 people + mattress). Maximum 5 days!

Price per boat per day include petrol, crew and fullboard: 800 EURO /day
